Maypop

The Maypop plant has many uses. Its leaves can be dried and used in a tea as a sleep aid, or its fruit can be harvested and eaten raw! To eat a maypop fruit, simply peel the skin and enjoy. The maypop is closely related to the passionfruit, which is the main flavor in the popular drink “Hawaiian Punch.”

Historically, the plant has been used as an herbal medicine to treat anxiety, insomnia, or hypertension. Traditionally, passionflower is reputed to have a number of potential uses including treating diarrhea, dysmenorrhoea, neuralgia, burns, hemorrhoids and insomnia.

The Maypop plant has been known to attract butterflies, so add this vine to your garden if you would like to host some delicate vistors!
